Minturn's First Friday Calendar Has Settled Into Traditions. November Is Still Up for Grabs.

On October 2, Kirby Cosmo's BBQ Bar on Main Street gave away free sliders until the pig ran out. Dave Perron & the Laughing Bones Duo played, Astral Tequila poured free tastings and the cornhole boards were set up. The Town of Minturn billed it as the third annual Pig Roast First Friday, and its event page says Kirby's has hosted a pig roast for every October First Friday so far.

A series that started in September 2024 now has a few traditions, and they tell you how the whole thing works. Some months stay with the same host every year. Other months move to a different business each time, and November 6 is one of those. A Main Street business gets that evening, and no host had been announced as of mid-October.

How the Series Began

The town announced First Fridays in fall 2024 as a response to community feedback and "in an effort to support local businesses." The first one ran on September 6, 2024, at the newly remodeled Eagle River Inn. Its theme was "Whisky and Wine by the River," with tastings from Eagle River Whisky and live music from Jen Mack. The same announcement already listed October's pig roast at Kirby Cosmo's.

The format has stayed the same since then. The town organizes each event and a local business or venue hosts it. The town's 2025 announcement described the gatherings as monthly and rotating among local business partners. When Rocky Mountain Taco hosted on September 4 this year, Vail Daily reported that the event was free and that the town gave every attendee two free drink tickets.

The Months That Stopped Rotating

Comparing the same months across two years shows which ones have become fixed:

Month 2025 host 2026 host
March Gel Z Art Gallery and Wild Mountain Cellars Gel Z Gallery, Wild Mountain Cellars and Vail Contemporary Artists
April The Barn, Spring Picnic The Crazy Chicken, World Party Day
May Minturn Makers Space The Barn, Cake Picnic
June Evoke Outdoors and 1904 Evoke Outdoors
September Minturn Saloon Rocky Mountain Taco
October Kirby Cosmo's pig roast Kirby Cosmo's pig roast
November Mexican Bar & Grill To be announced, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
December Christkindlmarkt with Minturn Whisky Co. Christkindlmarkt with Minturn Whisky Co.

Four months have the same host both years, and each one fits something that happens around it.

  • March is the art night. Gel Z and Wild Mountain Cellars co-hosted both years. In 2025 the night also had Vail Brewing beer, Chi Shack food and live music. In 2026, Vail Contemporary Artists joined, with local artists and wine tastings.
  • June goes with the GoPro Mountain Games. In 2025, Evoke Outdoors and 1904 held an open house and bike clinic tied to the Games and to Minturn Bike Park. In 2026, Evoke ran a family summer kickoff during Games week with e-bike demos and kids' activities.
  • October is Kirby's pig roast. It has been on the calendar since the series' first announcement.
  • December is the Christkindlmarkt and the town Christmas tree lighting.

The Barn is a near-fifth. It hosted a spring picnic both years, moving from April to May. The 2026 version, the Cake Picnic, was free and included a cake-sharing contest.

Where the Hosts Change

The other months are where new businesses come in. In September 2025, Minturn Saloon hosted on its patio with live music and passed appetizers. A year later, September went to Rocky Mountain Taco. According to Vail Daily, that night featured a new $3 Chile Colorado Taco, an off-menu loaded tater-tot dish called the "Notorious T.O.T," and sets from Scotty Kabel and the band Manmaker.

April moved too. The Crazy Chicken, which hosted a February 2025 mixer that doubled as a Safe Streets for All public-input pop-up, took April 2026 with a World Party Day theme. Minturn Makers Space held May 2025 with glassblowing and pottery demonstrations, then gave the slot to The Barn this year. Some hosts from 2025 have only appeared once. SteamMaster and All In Good Light Gallery opened that year with a January networking mixer and facility tours. The Bunkhouse deck held an International Beer Day party in August, after the series took July off for the holiday.

Across two years, the hosts have included a gallery, a cellar, a BBQ bar, a taco shop, a saloon, a maker space, an outfitter, an inn and a whisky maker. Each First Friday is a free evening at one of them, and at the September 2026 event the town covered two drinks per attendee.

November 6 Is the Open Slot

November is a rotating month. In 2025, Mexican Bar & Grill hosted it as a winter kickoff with drink tickets, specials and a performance by Diego Espinosa. The town's page for this year lists Friday, November 6, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., with "SAVE THE DATE! DETAILS TO FOLLOW" and no host named yet. Based on the past two years, November is likely to go to a business that hasn't hosted that month before.

The town's Halloween event comes first, but it isn't a First Friday. Trick-or-treating and photo ops run Friday, October 30, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Minturn Town Hall, 302 Pine St. The Eagle County Sheriff's Office and Mountain Life Calvary Chapel are taking part.

December Goes Back to Whisky

The series opened with whisky tastings by the river, and every year so far has ended with whisky too. The 2024 Christkindlmarkt took place at The Wee Dram, Eagle River Whisky's tasting room and outdoor space at the corner of Main Street and Nelson Avenue. It had German holiday food and drinks, vendors and family activities, and then everyone walked over to the tree at Holy Toledo for the lighting. For 2025 and 2026, the town lists Minturn Whisky Co. as its partner.

This year's First Friday Christkindlmarkt is Friday, December 4, from 4 to 8:30 p.m., with the annual tree lighting. On October 12, the town posted a call for vendors for "Minturn Whisky's 2026 Christkindlmarkt," looking for local and regional makers of handmade crafts, ornaments, pottery, woodwork, jewelry and specialty foods for an Old World-style Christmas market. There is no vendor fee, and space is limited.

The Rest of the Town Calendar Before Winter

Little Beach Park is also getting an upgrade, at a slower pace. The town opened a new playground and picnic area there in June 2026, after relocating a water line and preparing the site through the spring. It scheduled a ribbon cutting for October 6. Plans include an accessible path through the picnic area, likely in spring 2027, and a swings area north of the play pit, which staff are looking at for 2027 or 2028.

On the hill above the park's amphitheater, the Meyers Barn is being rebuilt. The town describes it as a late-1800s log barn, the largest remaining in Minturn, once owned by the Meyers family. It is a joint project of the Town of Minturn and the Minturn Community Fund, and volunteers Kelly Toon, Ken Halliday and Woody Woodruff have put in much of the work. Work made significant progress this summer and resumes in spring and summer 2027.

Some trails near town close before the Christkindlmarkt. The Vail Valley Mountain Trails Alliance's seasonal closure list shows these dates:

  1. November 23: Everkrisp and Whiskey Creek close until June 20.
  2. December 1: The Minturn Mini Mile and Minturn Bike Park close for the winter.

The town's trail guide treats the Mini Mile as a separate route from the out-of-bounds Minturn Mile.

The remaining town dates for 2026:

  • Friday, October 30, 5 to 7 p.m.: Halloween at Town Hall, 302 Pine St.
  • Friday, November 6, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.: First Friday, host to be announced
  • Friday, December 4, 4 to 8:30 p.m.: First Friday Christkindlmarkt and tree lighting with Minturn Whisky Co.
